Lark reports her findings...
http://eq2.forums.thedruidsgrove.org/showthread.php?t=7973&page=3&pp=15
In Everquest the motto was "Your in Our World Now" and they were not kidding!
In EQ I felt like I was in the game. In EQ2 I feel like I am playing a game.
EQ2 is leading me down the yellow brick road...very linear.
They are calling all the shots, playing my character more than I am.
--------
There are no less than 500 posts from beta-testers that basically feel that 'something is missing' and this is a 'dumbed down game' or EQLITE.
Which is why John Smedly recently found the need to post this on IGN:
"This isn't watered down EQ, EQ Lite or any such thing."
---------
I did not appreciate the way the complaints about character development, and combat were handled on the Betaboards.
(It is very difficult to make a post about anything, without comparing it to something. Both writer, and reader, must have a common frame of reference to begin to have a dialog.)
If a player posted, using Everquest as the example, they were promptly told that "This is not Everquest" and the thread was locked.
If a player posted using another game as an example, it was quickly locked. "You are not allowed to discuss other games on our boards"
If a player tried to make thier point without using examples..well quite frankly they could not get the point across.
---------
The common reply to many concerns was "That is by design"
If I design a sleek beautiful car that has no engine, and the people complain they don't want to push thier car around. I can not reply, "that is by design" and expect to sell any cars.
And recently it became even worse. We were constantly being told by Moorgard that the developers have feelings. (Sorry guys..you didnt ask us to come stroke your egos. We were invited to test the game and give our feedback) Get a Kevlar Jacket (like mine) and buck up!
----------
The game feels much less social to me than an MMORPG should. I have never liked console games, and this has that 'feel' to it.
---------
So ..will I play it when it goes live?
I have an all-access-pass, so I might. It surely won't have the staying power of Everquest, Asherons Call, Ultima Online, or Dark Age of Camelot.
It will hold my attention about the same amount of time as Horizons did.
